Apr 30, 2008 · Hi everyone, this is my first time starting a topic. Couldn't find a thread on this. I have a 2000 Sierra C1500 with the 5.3L. The throttle body has a coolant passage that warms up the intake air to help the engine run efficiently when it's cold, kind of like the exhaust manifold heat stove that older GM trucks had.

If your General Motors SUV or truck is losing coolant, with no visible signs of a leak, the source may shock you. Worse, allowing the problem to go on often results in a new engine. A cracked cylinder head is not the only potential cause, but it is a known problem on the General Motors V8 engines, in certain year models.
A miscalibrated coolant temperature sensor (CTS) can result in excessive NOx emissions and overheating by masking problems with insuffient coolant. The coolant temperature sensor , abbreviated as CTS, in your car is an important device that enables the control unit to give alerts if the engine is overheating or if the temperature within the ...

The throttle body is heated using engine coolant to prevent ice from forming in the venturi so there are two 1/2" coolant hoses connected to it. You do not need to disconnect these hoses and in fact I do not recommend that you do so unless you happen to be doing this at the same time as a coolant flush.

Apr 19, 2012 · Anyhow, topped up the coolant, let it cool down, drove home with no temp issues. Once home I popped the bonnet to have a look around and noticed a hissing noise. I isolated it down to a plate on the bottom of the throttle body that has 2 coolant pipes running to it, one from the inlet manifold and one to the expansion tank.
Best case, it may be one of the two by-pass coolant lines that run to the TB or the single bypass line that runs in a loop out and back in to the TB spitting fluid under the PCV and evap lines. See if all the hoses are seated and clips are tight. If not then maybe one of the plugs on the throttle body is leaking. Last edited: Jan 2, 2017 Apr 18, 2013 · It also makes it way easier to remove the throttle body. The holes are approximately the correct size for a 1/4" npt for the top one on the manifold and 3/8" npt for the lower one. I have had no issues tapping the 1/4" hole, but the 3/8" one on one manifold was apparently somewhat eroded, and the threads were not consistant, so the pipe plug ...
